Electrical Inspection and Testing

Electrical installations and wiring seem to depreciate with both age and usage. They need to be inspected and tested are regular intervals in order to see whether they are in safe working condition. You cannot see electricity and both wires and cables are usually hidden inside consumer units and walls and sometimes cupboards. Therefore, being out of sight, we tend to forget to check the condition of our electrical installation for either wear or tear or damage.

Old and faulty wiring happens to be the main cause of electrical fires in the home and also increase the likelihood of other electrical hazards taking place. In order to reduce the risk of fires or any electrical accidents, it is wise to check the conditions of all cables, sockets, switches to ensure electrical safety. These regular checks for wire testing are commonly referred as periodic inspection and testing.

Both the periodic inspection and wire testing has to be carried out by electric experts who are registered electricians. These electricians inspect the conditions of the electronics against the standards of electrical safety and safe electrical installations which is required by the Electrical Installations (IET Wiring Regulations).

They will check the condition of the electrics against the UK standard for the safety of electrical installations, BS 7671 – Requirements for Electrical Installations (IET Wiring Regulations). According to the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, it is stated that all reasonable and practicable steps must be undertaken to prevent danger from electrical systems.
